Dear members and friends of the DKG, the AuCers and the SVMT,
Dear colleagues,

we are pleased to invite you to the D–A–CH Ceramic Session jointly organised by DKG, AuCerS, and SVMT.

The Conference Session will be hosted by the Montanuniversität Leoben, and will take place on May 05-09, 2019, in Leoben, Austria. This event is intended to strengthen the bonds between the German (DKG), Austrian (AuCerS) and Switzerland (SVMT) ceramic societies, spreading the modern developments in the field of ceramics to a broader audience.

We are therefore pleased to welcome you in Leoben, a university town in the heart of Austria with a great history. The region of Styria has a long tradition in materials technologies. There are a variety of relics from the Bronze Age and early Iron Age, such as the Kultwagen from Strettweg, which was found only 50 kilometers east from Leoben in a royal grave from the Hallstatt period. At the Styrian Erzberg, just 30 km north of Leoben, iron ore has been mined for more than 1000 years.

The Montanuniversität Leoben was founded in 1840, aiming to provide a scientific support to the ore smelting and the steel production. Nowadays, materials and related technologies, are an economic key area, which generate about 25 % of Austria’s gross domestic product. Leoben has developed towards an international centre of materials research, with more than 500 scientists, researching on all material classes. Crucial factors for the choice of the Conference venue have been the development, and contributions from the institutes of the Montanuniversität Leoben and their research facilities in the field of ceramics science.

Focus topics of our event are “Additive Manufacturing” as well as “Reliability of Ceramic Structures and Processes”. The dynamic development of new opportunities for a customized production of ceramic based components, and the arrangement of complex geometries bring up numerous questions regarding raw materials, slips and binding systems. We are also faced with new challenges in the field of characterization of green parts and sintered bodies. Consequently, the second focus topic is very up-to-date, since new ceramic materials are facing new application areas with extreme operation conditions. Coping with these topics is essential for the technical and commercial success of the ceramic materials.

10 additional topics will be part of the agenda, such as “Ceramic for Electronics and Mobility”, “Ceramic for Energy Applications”, and “Ceramics Composites”.

We would like to extend a special invitation to young scientists, students and postgraduates, to present the results of their qualification works, and their current projects in Leoben. With the Lecture Competitions of the DKG (German Ceramic Society), and AuCerS (Austrian Ceramic Society), as well as the awarding of the best posters, we are confident to create an attractive framework for these young talents.
